'Coupon Mom' Offers Tips For Shopping Online

(KDKA) Searching for great bargains doesn't have to be about spending hours hunting for the best prices in local stores. Instead, it can be done with just a few clicks of the mouse.

KDKA's Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos talked with "Coupon Mom" Stephanie Nelson about some internet surfing secrets that can save consumers money.

"I do most of my shopping online because in just a few clicks, I can get something my friend or family member wants," Nelson said. "It's easy to do and many times it is less expensive."

Nelson shows how it's done as she shops for a Kitchen Aid Mixer.

"It's always $299 or $269 in the stores," she said of the product she's searching for.

So, Nelson says she starts searching for prices at ShopLocal.com, where she says she can get a list of all the stores in her area as well as all the online sites offering the mixer.

"The lowest price is from Kitchen.com of $230 - $217 for the mixer and another $12 shipping and handling," she says.

Nelson says once she's finds that site she discovers an even better price.

"It's on sale for $199 and they happen to have a five percent coupon code," she says.

Nelson says she also clicks onto Overstock.com, where she says she goes for one last check of lower price. She also says she clicks on UPromise.com, where they offer college savings and cash back on purchases.

Finally, Nelson goes to the manufacturers website where she says she finds a $30 cash back coupon, which brings the price of the mixer to just $169.

Nelson also adds that she visits PriceProtectr.com.

"What it does is tells you to enter an item that you purchased, enter the store where you bought it and then it will keep track of whether or not that item's price has dropped within a certain time period where you purchased it," said Nelson.
